

RESOURCE VALUES
Covering an area of 1088 hectares, the site was designated as National Park on June 2, 1976. Within 3 hours drive to Ankara, the capital city, it is an important centre meeting the ever-increasing demand of Ankara for recreational facilities to a great extend.
A trout production station was established in Baldiran valley within the boundaries of the National Park as well as ponds where visitors may fish for sporting purposes during 15 June - 15 September. Visitors can also purchase fish from the station if they desire.
FLORA AND FAUNA
The Ilgaz Mountains possess a flora predominated by species of trees such as scotch pine, black pine and fir, rising from the skirts up to the peaks. This flora is endowed with a rich variety of grassy vegetation. Owing to many streams rushing all year round and lush vegetation, the area offers a suitable environment for the survival of wildlife such as roe deer, wild boar, bear, wolf and fox, which still exist in spite of excessive hunting.

GEOLOGY
Rising across the passage zone from Central Anatolia to Northern Anatolia, the geological formation of the Ilgaz mountainous area is consisted of mostly serpentines, schists and volcanic rocks. The area offers interesting examples of geological formation as well as mountain formation aspects. Northern Anatolian Fault, being the longest and the roughest range of Turkiye, stretches across the southern skirts of the Ilgaz Mountains.
Furthermore, the region exhibits a geomorphologcal formation of an extraordinary beauty with its valleys, hills and peaks
HOW TO GET THERE
Visitors can get to the National Park, which lies at a distance of 45 km to Kastamonu and 200 km to Ankara, via Cankiri - Kastamonu State Highway that passes through the National Park.
CLIMATE
The area is in the hinterland zone of Blacksea Region. The highest mean temperature is 37.7, the lowest is -26.9 and the mean annual precipitation is 450 mm. Rainfall is greater during the period between May and June.


FACILITIES
Facilities available in the National Park include a hotel and training centers belong to Ministry of Foresty and to the General Directorate of Village Affairs. Furthermore, the General Directorate of Physical Training has cable-chair facilities in the National Park.
An important attraction of the park is that it is a resort for winter sports. Therefore, the most popular season for visitors is the winter.
